Digital voucher

The deadline to apply for a digital version of the COVID stimulus vouchers is swiftly approaching, with only one week left to download the vouchers before physical vouchers are automatically dispatched.

Under the scheme, all those officially registered as residing in Malta are eligible for €100 in vouchers, including €60 to spend at hospitality establishments and €40 to spend at retail outlets and services.

The €50 million scheme will see vouchers disbursed to eligible citizens and residents for use from 7th June, which is also the date when the next major round of COVID restrictions will be lifted, with bars being permitted to reopen after half a year closed.

This year’s iteration of the voucher scheme differs from the last in that it is available in digital as well as physical form.

Announcing the rollout, Economy and Industry Minister Silvio Schembri said that some of the advantages of the digital format are that they cannot get damaged and people will be less likely to be in a situation where they are at a shop or business and forgot their vouchers at home.

To assist people in setting up these vouchers on their smartphones, the Government has distributed instruction pamphlets to seemingly every household in the country.

Those that do not download their vouchers by the deadline on 4th June, need not worry, however, as the system will see who did not download their voucher and will proceed to send them in the post physically.

Till then, readers can download their vouchers here.
