After a stormy weekend, disruptions in sea travel seem to be persisting, particularly due to strong winds and unfavourable weather and sea conditions.
As a result, on Monday (today) Gozo Highspeed announced that it will cancel all voyages scheduled on Tuesday 9th January “due to unfavourable sea conditions.” Service is expected to resume the next day, Wednesday 10th January.
Gozo Highspeed is a fast ferry service that was born as part of merged operations between Virtu Ferries and Gozo Fast Ferry.
According to the mariners three-day forecast, Tuesday is anticipated to feature isolated showers with Northwest force five to six winds to become force four to five. The sea is expected to be very rough becoming moderate overnight.
In the meantime, Virtu Ferries Ltd, the company that operates the service to and from Malta and Sicily has also announced some changes to Tuesday’s schedule.
On the other hand, Gozo Channel Operations Limited stated that it will be operating through its Comino Route, issuing warnings of delays.
Overall, it has been a rough weekend and Gozo Channel vessels managed to power through the rough seas and near-gale force winds, until it seized operations temporarily yesterday.
