The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and Għaqda Bdiewa Attivi (GħBA) have announced a collaboration agreement to identify current difficulties and solutions in the promotion of local produce and the protection of the traditional landscape.

The announcement on Saturday noted that the MHRA’s objective to promote and safeguard the interests of the tourism sector tallies with the GħBA’s mission to find solutions for local farmers to penetrate the market more successfully.

The statement said that both organisations “believe that the farmer is essential in the stewardship of the country’s open spaces and that the resulting landscape is a crucial touristic product that we cannot afford to lose or weaken.”

It continued, “The farmers’ pivotal role in tending the countryside needs to be sustained and strengthened. Furthermore, the products produced by these farmers are the ingredients that contribute to the Maltese identity which tourists seek to explore when they visit our country.”

The organisations stated that this culinary identity is an increasingly sought-after attribute for tourists visiting Malta, and opined that the tourist industry would benefit significantly when such an identity is promoted to a greater extent.

The two organisations will be cooperating to support one another in working towards this mutual vision by identifying current difficulties and obstacles, as well as potential solutions.

They concluded, “Both organisations are confident that new synergisms can be created through this collaboration to the benefit of all stakeholders involved in these two strategically crucial sectors for our country.”
