Industrial action by Lufthansa staff will see four flights two and from Malta cancelled on Friday (tomorrow).

The action will lead to the cancellation of 800 flights in total, Lufthansa said, likely affecting some 130,000 passengers.

The strike, which is the second in around six weeks, was called by the Lufthansa pilots’ union and will impact both passenger and cargo services.

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union said late on Wednesday that pay talks had failed and Lufthansa pilots would stage a 24-hour strike starting just after midnight on Thursday. The union is demanding a 5.5 per cent pay rise this year for its more than 5,000 pilots and automatic inflation compensation thereafter.

Malta International Airport on Thursday (today) advised customers that if they have an upcoming flight operated by Lufthansa on Friday, to contact the airline for more information.

Lufthansa have confirmed that flight cancellations would affect Frankfurt and Munich airports on 2nd September.

This impacts flights LH1924/5 between Malta and Munich, with both the 2.45pm flight from Munich to Malta and the 5.40pm flight from Malta to Munich being cancelled.

Similarly, flights LH1311/1312 will also be cancelled on Friday, which refer to the 5.15pm Malta to Frankfurt flight, as well as the 8.20pm Frankfurt to Malta flight.
