The Ministers for Tourism of Malta and Greece, Clayton Bartolo and Olga Kefalogianni respectively, announced that the two countries have agreed to sign a tourism cooperation agreement.
The decision for closer collaboration was announced following a meeting which took place between the Tourism Ministers on Wednesday (yesterday) in Athens. Mr Bartolo was accompanied by Malta’s ambassador to Greece, Joseph Cuschieri.
Curiously, unlike the Greek Tourism Ministry, Malta’s Department of Information made no explicit mention of a tourism cooperation agreement between the two countries in its press release.
Other matters discussed during the meeting related to the promotion of tourism and development of joint actions in regard to the operation of Destination Management & Promotion Organisations (DMMO). Furthermore the Ministers also discussed the idea of launching joint programmes between Malta and Greece to attract tourists from long-haul markets.
Following the meeting, Mr Bartolo extended an official invitation to Ms Kefalogianni to visit Malta in the near future.
