Malta’s unemployment rate remains at rock bottom, standing at only 3.1 per cent in April 2024.

This represents a 0.1 percentage point increase over its rate in March.

However, it is actually 0.2 percentage points less than it was in April 2023.

During April 2024, the number of unemployed persons was 9,900, with the 25 to 74 age group being the major contributor to the overall level of unemployment.

The seasonally adjusted number of unemployed youths amounted to 2,038, whereas the number of unemployed individuals aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 7,862.

In April 2024, the unemployment rate for males stood at 3.5 per cent, increasing by 0.1 percentage points when compared to March 2024.

Meanwhile, the female unemployment rate stood at 2.6 per cent, remaining stable from the preceding month.

The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 to 24 years (youth unemployment rate) decreased to 7.1 per cent, while the rate for those aged between 25 and 74 years stood at 2.7 per cent, increasing by 0.1 percentage points from March 2024.
