Melita Limited has confirmed that a disruption to its internet service on Wednesday came due to a “glitch” in one of its high-speed internet routers.

Late on Wednesday, many Melita users took to social media to express their frustration about the fact that they had no internet at home.

Customers from various localities around Malta were complaining of facing such an issue, with some also stating that they did not have access to TV.

Speaking to, a spokesperson for Melita explained that the company is now monitoring the situation “after a glitch in one of its high-speed internet routers disrupted the service for customers.”

The spokesperson added that the outage lasted “less than half an hour and only affected internet services. TV services, fixed and mobile telephony were not disrupted”.

Nonetheless, they remarked that if customers were using the internet to watch TV, rather than their cable connection, then their service may have also been affected.

“The manufacturer of the equipment immediately provided a solution for the problem, which is now being implemented by Melita,” they concluded whilst also apologising on behalf of the telecoms company for any disruptions.
