Malta’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg conducted talks on Thursday with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias, which “continued to intensify discussions in the trade sector, in particular between start-ups and also in the fintech and food sectors.”

During the official visit to Greece, Minister Borg, on behalf of the Maltese Government, also signed a cooperation agreement with Greece in the field of culture.

Following last year’s visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece to Malta, Minister Borg accepted the invitation to continue the discussions in Athens.

Minister Borg further said that during this meeting, bilateral and multilateral relations, the situation in the southern Mediterranean, immigration, the situation in Sudan and other current affairs were also discussed in detail.

Malta also showed its support for Greece’s candidacy on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2025-2026, as the Maltese delegation attended the launch of Greece’s campaign.

During the bilateral meeting, Minister Borg had the opportunity to also explain Malta’s experience on this Council and how it is working towards more dialogue in favour of global peace.

From his end, the Minister Dendias thanked Minister Borg for accepting this invitation for an official visit and for both his and Malta’s support towards Greece’s candidacy for a United Nations Security Council seat for the term 2025-2026.

Minister Dendias showed appreciation for the knowledge that Malta passed on to Greece with a reflection on its first months on this Council.

He thanked Malta for work done during its Presidency and expressed how he looks forward to the 2024 Presidency.

Minister Dendias added that the signing that took place earlier today shows a clear sign of both countries’ will to further strengthen their bilateral relations.

Minister Borg and the Maltese delegation also visited the workers at the Maltese Embassy in Greece under the leadership of Ambassador Joseph Cuschieri. The Min
