Valletta

Valletta ranks as the seventh-best city in Europe when it comes to the cleanliness of its Airbnbs, yet offers more affordable accommodation options than many others, according to a new study.

Holiday rental experts at GuestReady analysed Airbnb data to find the average cleanliness rating for rental properties in popular European cities.

They considered the 100 most reviewed properties in each city to determine which cities have the cleanest accommodations according to visitors.

Split, Croatia topped the list with an average Airbnb cleanliness rating of 4.93 out of 5. It was followed by Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Athens, Greece.

Paris, France and Valencia, Spain, had the lowest cleanliness ratings among the cities surveyed.

Valletta ranked a joint seventh-best, together with Florence, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Warsaw and Bilbao,, with a cleanliness rating of 4.85.

Malta’s capital was also competitive on price, with a median price of €85 per night comparing well with Europe’s other most popular destination.

Predictably, most cities offering even better rates are located to the east, with the average room in Bucharest, Romania costing just €52 a night.

That is less than a third the median price of a room in Reykjavik, Iceland – the European city with the most expensive Airbnbs at €162 per night.

Alexander Limpert, CEO of GuestReady, commented on the findings: “Nobody wants to stay in dirty accommodation, especially when travelling and exploring new parts of the world, so it’s great to see these European cities receiving such high cleanliness scores from visitors. Even the cities that come bottom of the ranking received very commendable scores for cleanliness, with no city scoring lower than 4.75 on average.”
